Nineteen-year-old driver killed after SUV crashes into a tree in Alachua County

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – A 19-year-old man died early Sunday morning after a single-car crash in Alachua County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the crash happened at midnight near Northwest 165th Street and Northwest 270th Avenue.

Investigators say the SUV was traveling northbound on Northwest 165th Street at a high speed and failed to negotiate a curve.

The car ran off the street onto the east shoulder and collided into a tree.

The driver was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue assisted at the scene.

The crash is still under investigation at the time of this report.
