Fort Myers man accused of attacking multiple women found hiding behind shed

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

A Fort Myers man was arrested after being accused of attacking multiple women on Sunday.

According to the Fort Myers Police Department arrest report, officers responded to a report of a woman being attacked at her residence at around 9:59 a.m.

Officers spoke to the victim, who said someone had knocked on her door and that she had gotten up to open it. She said that the man entered her residence and attempted to wrap his arms around her.

The victim fought back as the man tried to push her to the ground, the report said. The woman called out for help to her son, which made the man run from the residence.

“I would have been a victim and I know I would have if I had left my door open,” Fort Myers resident Brenda Moore said.

Moore lives near the first victim and said the suspect attempted to get into her house as well.

While officers were speaking with the victim, other officers were searching for the man. While doing so, officers spoke to another victim who told them a man had attacked her.

The victim told officers she was sitting on a bench outside a corner store when a man approached her and sat down next to her. The man then began rubbing the victim’s thigh, the report said.

The victim immediately pushed the man away and ran until a car stopped to assist her, which made the man run away, according to the report.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Aerial Support Unit began assisting in the search for the man.

Officers found the man, identified as Shaquille Ashley, 31, hiding behind a shed and arrested him.

A third victim then spoke to police and told them that Ashley had attempted to enter her apartment.

Ashley faces charges of burglary with battery or assault, battery on a person 65 years of age or older and battery.
