ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies say the road rage encounter in Escambia County that ended in a shooting Tuesday afternoon will lead to the arrest of the person investigators say was the aggressor.
Andrew Harvey will be charged with simple assault, battery, and damage to property in connection with the incident, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies reported that the man who fired the shots had his family in his vehicle with him.
ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — A road rage incident in Escambia County ended with one person shot and another detained on Tuesday.
The incident began a few blocks away around 2:45 p.m. near the intersection of W Street and Fairfield Drive. A WEAR News crew was on scene.
Sheriff Chip Simmons said two shots were fired in the area. Two people were involved.
The suspected shooter has been detained, and the person who was shot was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Escambia County Sheriff’s Office investigators are gathering evidence at the scene and speaking with several witnesses.
ECSO is investigating the shooting as a stand-your-ground case.
“We’re evaluating whether it’s a stand-your-ground or whether there’ll be charges against the shooter,” said Sheriff Chip Simmons. “…At this point, there are no arrests.”
“If it’s reasonable to have thought that you or someone else was in fear for their life at the time the shots were fired, that’s what we’re looking at now,” he said.
Before that final judgment is made, Simmons said they’re listening to all accounts of what happened.
Traffic was impacted in the area, with one lane on Fairfield shut down as the investigation continued. A witness said the intersection in that area is full of aggressive drivers.
Both vehicles involved remained at the scene in the far-right lane in front of the new Murphy gas station and Dollar General.
The vehicles were described as a silver Hyundai and a black Nissan pickup truck.
