MDSO motorman stable after crash in Miami; civilian hospitalized

MIAMI (WSVN) – A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office motorman has been hospitalized after being involved in a crash in Miami.

City of Miami Police and Fire Rescue units responded to the area of Southwest 37th Avenue and 12th Street on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Fire Rescue, the motorman may have been cut off, causing him to crash.

7News cameras captured a large police and fire rescue presence in the crash scene and paramedics placing the motorman in a gurney. His motorcycle on its side with a red SUV stopped nearby.

Paramedics rushed the motorman to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Video shows medics and police colleagues rushing the first responder into the emergency room. As the deputy is wheeled inside, he gives his colleagues the “hang loose” sign, letting them know he’s OK.

Officials said he underwent some exams at the hospital.

Additionally, the 62-year-old female driver of the vehicle involved in the crash has been transported to Coral Gables Hospital with neck pain but in stable condition.

At JMH, an SUV escorted by police arrived to the emergency room entrance with a group of people who appear to be the deputy’s family. They were seen heading inside to see their loved one.

As of late Tuesday afternoon, the scene has since cleared and the motorcycle and car involved have been towed away.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
