POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — A 26-year-old man has been arrested after he accidentally shot a woman Monday night while firing at a thief who stole from him in Pompano Beach, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
According to BSO spokeswoman Claudinne Caro, the shooting occurred Monday night in the area of Northeast 19th Street and 25th Avenue.
Caro said detectives learned that William Forhan was the victim of a grand theft, and then fired at the thief as the thief was fleeing the area.
But Caro said Forhan instead shot a woman who was nearby.
The victim was transported by paramedics to a local hospital with injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening, Caro said.
Forhan has since been arrested on charges of firing a missile into a dwelling and culpable negligence inflicting harm.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Forhan was being held at the Broward County Main Jail without bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
