73-year-old Webster man killed in crash in Sumter County

A 73-year-old Webster man towing a vehicle was killed when he stopped to reconnect the second vehicle.

The Webster man was driving a Chevy Silverado at 7:40 p.m. Monday traveling eastbound on State Road 48 and towing a Toyota RAV4, with a tow-strap, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The tow-strap became disconnected and he circled back around to reconnect the second vehicle.

He had climbed under the RAV4 to re-establish the connection when a 54-year-old Bushnell man driving an Audi A5 was traveling eastbound on State Road 48 when he failed to stop for the other two vehicles. The Audi A5 hit the rear of the RAV4, pushing it into the Chevy Silverado.

The Webster man suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.

The man driving the Audi A5 suffered minor injuries. An 18-year-old male who had been in the RAV4 suffered minor injuries. A 10-year-old Bushnell girl who had been riding in the Chevy Silverado suffered minor injuries.
