Drunk Ocala man allegedly steals, crashes car at mobile home park

A “heavily intoxicated” Ocala man was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly stole a car and crashed it near the entrance of a mobile home park in Marion County.

On Saturday, March 14, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the Country Estates Mobile Home Park located on NE 95th Street in Anthony in reference to a stolen vehicle. A female victim had reported that her Dodge Charger had been stolen from outside her friend’s home, according to the arrest report.

The victim told the deputy that she had arrived at the incident at around 5 p.m. that evening to hang out with her friend. While outside of the mobile home, she advised that an “intoxicated” man – identified as 28-year-old AM, Jr. – exited the residence, entered her Dodge Charger, and “sped off” in the vehicle.

The deputy noted that the victim “barely knows” M and did not give him permission to take her car.

A few minutes after allegedly stealing the victim’s car, M reportedly ran back towards the incident location. According to the victim’s statement, M then allegedly threatened to “kill” her if she did not leave the area immediately.

The victim told the deputy that she ran away from the incident location to get away from M. When she reached the mobile home park’s entrance, she reportedly observed that her car had been involved in an accident on NE 95th Street.

A witness corroborated the victim’s statement, according to the report.

The deputy made contact with M and advised him of his Miranda rights. During an ensuing interview, M allegedly claimed that “his brother stole the car and crashed it,” adding that he “did not want to get (his brother) in trouble.”

The report stated that M appeared to be “heavily intoxicated” and was “slurring his words” during the post-Miranda interview.

M was placed under arrest, booked into Marion County Jail, and released hours later after posting bond. He is being charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle.

A court date for M has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
