Man, dog killed in hit-and-run on Lee Road; FHP searching for driver

Investigators are searching for the driver accused of a hit-and-run crash that left one man and a dog dead, and a woman critically injured Thursday night.

According to investigators, the crash happened just before 9 p.m. at the intersection of Lee Road and Adanson Street.

Troopers say a 2021 Lexus ES was traveling eastbound on Lee Road approaching the intersection when the driver veered off the roadway, onto a raised median, hitting two people and a dog.

Investigators say the victims, a man in a wheelchair and a woman, were on the center median at the time of the crash. The impact also sent debris from the wheelchair into a nearby pickup truck that was stopped in the westbound left turn lane.

The man in the wheelchair was pronounced dead at the scene. The dog also died. The woman was rushed to the hospital and is in stable but critical condition.

Investigators say the driver of the Lexus fled the scene, continuing eastbound on Lee Road. The vehicle was later found abandoned in a nearby parking lot with damage consistent with the crash.

Troopers are still working to identify the driver and say the identities of the victims are pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the pickup who was hit, a 20-year-old man, was not injured and stayed at the scene.
