One person died in a three-vehicle crash at Oil Well Road and State Road 29 in Collier County Monday.
The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed they responded to the crash. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said they responded as well.
The crash caused road closures and major traffic delays, deputies said.
According to FHP, a sedan being driven by a 22-year-old Bonita Springs man was approaching a stop sign while traveling west on Oil Well Road at the intersection of SR-29.
An SUV being driven by a 31-year-old Lehigh Acres man, with a 30-year-old Lehigh Acres woman as a passenger, was traveling south on SR-29 at the intersection of Oil Well Road.
A semitrailer being driven by a 53-year-old Naples man was traveling north on SR-29, south of Oil Well Road.
FHP said the driver of the sedan ran the stop sign and crashed into the left side of the SUV. This caused the SUV to rotate, and the semitrailer crashed into the SUV.
The driver of the SUV was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries and was later pronounced dead. The passenger of the SUV sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital, FHP said.
The crash remains under investigation.
