Dunnellon motorcyclist dies after rear-ending pickup truck on state road

A 34-year-old man from Dunnellon died after rear-ending a pickup truck and being thrown from his motorcycle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The truck was traveling on State Road 40 just after 7:30 p.m. when the motorcycle approached it from behind and hit it, troopers said.

The motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed during the crash, troopers said.

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital to check for injuries.
