Tire blowout on I-4 causes deadly rollover in Orange County, FHP says

A passenger is dead after a crash that began with a tire blowout on Interstate 4 near Walt Disney World, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

According to an FHP report, a 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer was traveling westbound on I-4 in the inside lane when its right rear tire blew out. The blowout caused the SUV to overturn several times onto the left shoulder and into the median guardrail.

According to FHP, one passenger was ejected into the eastbound center lane.

A 2017 Lexus CT traveling eastbound in the center lane struck the ejected passenger, troopers said.

The TrailBlazer’s driver and six passengers were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, investigators said.

The passenger who was ejected was taken to the hospital, where the person was pronounced deceased.

The Lexus driver and passenger were not taken to the hospital and remained at the scene, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
