Multi-vehicle crash in Silver Springs kills 2 people, Florida Highway Patrol investigates

Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a vehicle crash in Silver Springs that killed two people early Wednesday morning.

Troopers say a person was driving their sedan west on State Road 40 just before 2 a.m.

A 43-year-old woman was driving her SUV east on State Road 40 when the sedan drove over the centerline and hit the SUV head-on and the sedan caught on fire.

The driver of the sedan died at the scene, and the 43-year-old woman died at the hospital.

East Highway 40 was closed in both directions at the intersection of Highway 326 but the roadways have since reopened.

Troopers say there is not a positive identity for the driver of the sedan at this time as they continue to investigate.
