A driver who is accused of fleeing the scene after hitting and killing a pedestrian Friday is now facing additional charges as Bradenton police believe the suspect was intoxicated.
Jordan Beard, 40, who was arrested after the hit-and-run crash Friday, has been charged with DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash involving death and tampering with evidence, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
Police said they found the victim, Vicki Noon, 77, dead in her yard around 1 p.m. on Friday. Noon lived off 11th Avenue West in Bradenton.
Investigators determined that a vehicle had veered off the road and struck Noon. Multiple witnesses described seeing a gold sedan leaving the area, and police said the vehicle was captured on surveillance video.
Officers immediately began canvassing the neighborhood for the suspect vehicle and soon found the car parked at a residence within walking distance from the crash site.
Detectives said Beard was at the home when they arrived. He was taken into custody at that time for leaving the scene of an accident involving death, according to officials.
Police announced the additional charges against Beard on Saturday.
He remained in the Manatee County Jail over the weekend, and police said he could potentially face even more charges related to the deadly crash as the investigation progresses.
