A Plant City man is facing charges following a deadly crash in which authorities said he hit a 19-year-old pedestrian and then drove several miles before calling 911.
M, 27, was arrested Monday for leaving the scene of a crash involving death and violation of probation, though officials said M could soon face more charges.
The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. on May 24, near the intersection of South County Road 39 and Tipton Road in Plant City, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Two people were crossing the street when investigators said M changed lanes and struck one of the pedestrians in the roadway.
He then drove several miles away from the crash site before reporting the incident, deputies said.
The 19-year-old pedestrian, who was from Plant City, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
When deputies found M, they said he was showing “signs of impairment.” They also observed “significant damage” to M’s truck.
He could potentially face additional charges, pending the results of a blood test.
