A 63-year-old Ocala landlord was arrested after he allegedly kicked his roommate, leaving her with a broken rib and punctured lung.
On Thursday, May 21, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a home located on NE 57th Street in reference to a disturbance.
Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a female victim at a neighbor’s house who claimed that her landlord, identified as F, had battered her.
The report noted that while F was her landlord, the two were living as roommates and were not in a domestic relationship.
According to the report, the victim stated she was sleeping in her room when F entered and began yelling at her about moving out. The sudden entry reportedly startled the victim, causing her to fall out of her chair.
The victim further alleged that F kicked her in the right side of her ribs before leaving the residence.
After being read his rights, F told the deputy that he had tried speaking with the victim about her belongings when an argument ensued. He alleged that the victim spat on him multiple times during the incident, and he denied kicking her.
The victim was initially transported to a local hospital for evaluation. While at the facility, a nurse informed MCSO that the victim had sustained a broken rib, a displaced rib, and a punctured lung from where she had been kicked. Due to the severity of these injuries, the victim was transferred to a local trauma center.
During a follow-up interview at the hospital, the victim admitted to spitting on F, but stated she only did so after he had kicked her in the ribs, according to the report.
Based on the medical findings and the victim’s statements, deputies returned to the residence and placed F under arrest. He was booked into the Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
Jail records show that F is being charged with aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability. A court date for F has not yet been scheduled.
