Incident occurred at International Speedway Boulevard and Kepler Road

A Port Orange man was killed after being struck by a pickup truck at a Volusia County intersection, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of International Speedway Boulevard and Kepler Road.

According to an FHP report, a 2019 Ford F-150 driven by a 20-year-old Lake Helen man was traveling northbound in the left turn lane on Kepler Road, approaching the intersection with International Speedway Boulevard, when a 46-year-old pedestrian from Port Orange was waiting on the sidewalk, preparing to cross International Speedway Boulevard from north to south.

As the truck began its left turn onto International Speedway Boulevard, the pedestrian entered the vehicle’s path and failed to yield the right of way. The front of the truck struck the pedestrian, the report states.

The pedestrian was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver was not transported and remained on scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
