Firefighters extricated an injured person from a car after a  crash Thursday afternoon on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Summerfield.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash at about 1:15 p.m. at the entrance to Belladel Plaza, across from Trinity Lutheran Church.

Firefighters from Marion County Fire Rescue worked diligently to extricate an injured person from a red four-door Toyota. The extrication took more than 30 minutes of delicate work on behalf of the crew. The airbags in the vehicle had deployed.

A woman who had been driving the car apparently had been able to free herself from the vehicle. A passenger had to be extricated. Both the driver and passenger were taken from the scene by ambulance.

A truck towing a trailer from CCC Plumbing Repairs & More and a sport utility vehicle were also involved in the crash.

The crash snarled traffic on northbound U.S. Hwy. 441, backing up traffic coming from The Villages.

In addition to multiple units from Marion County Fire Rescue, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.

The investigation into the crash has been turned over to the Florida Highway Patrol.
