Firefighters were called to a duplex fire in Delray Beach Friday evening, where heavy flames broke out in the rear of one of the units.
When crews with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue arrived, they found fire burning inside the home and fully engulfing a back patio area.
Officials say everyone inside the duplex was able to get out safely before firefighters reached the scene off Dusenburg Road.
To stop the fire from spreading, crews cut a ventilation hole above the blaze, releasing super-heated smoke and gases. Firefighters say that move helped prevent the flames from traveling through the shared attic and into the neighboring unit.
No injuries were reported, per PBCFR. The American Red Cross is assisting residents affected by the fire.
