A woman is dead after a three-vehicle crash that shut down SR-29 Friday night, according to troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol.
In a news release, FHP said that a Ford Pickup driven by a 29-year-old man from Lehigh Acres was driving north on SR-29. The other two vehicles, a Gillig bus driven by a 52-year-old man from Naples and a Nissan Sedan driven by a 63-year-old woman from Lehigh Acres, were driving south.
FHP says that the Ford veered left and entered the southbound lane, sideswiping the bus. The Ford then collided with the front of the Nissan, causing the Ford to overturn.
The 63-year-old driver from Lehigh Acres sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital. The Nissan had a passenger: an 85-year-old woman from Miramar. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the Ford, S 29, was injured and transported to a hospital. Upon his release, FHP says troopers arrested him on charged of DUI manslaughter. He was booked into the Collier County Jail.
The Florida Highway Patrol said they are responding to a reported deadly crash on State Road 29 in Collier County on Friday night.
FHP says the crash remains under investigation.
