72-year-old dies after head-on crash in St. Pete

One person is dead and another hospitalized after a pick-up truck crossed over into oncoming traffic and hit a van.

The St. Petersburg Police Department responded to a crash around 1:37 a.m. Thursday.

According to the SPPD, a pick-up truck traveling eastbound on 5th Avenue North, approaching Lafayette Street North, before crossing into oncoming traffic and hitting a van head-on traveling westbound.

The driver of the truck, 72-year-old C was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers said the driver of the van, a 67-year-old woman, was taken to a nearby hospital, where she is in stable condition.
