A man is behind bars after a heated exchange at a convenience store escalated into a truck driving into the business, a physical altercation and the theft of a cell phone.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported robbery at a local convenience store. During their investigation, deputies learned the suspect became involved in a physical altercation with the victims and took one of their cell phones.
The sheriff’s office said one of the victims tried to retrieve the cell phone before the suspect got out of his truck and began striking the victims.
Surveillance video from the convenience store shows a dark gray pickup truck pulling into the parking lot before two people are seen getting into a scuffle with the driver.
The video then shows the suspect, identified as M, getting out of the truck and fighting with the two victims. Body camera video later shows a deputy conducting a traffic stop on the pickup truck before M exits the vehicle with his hands raised.
M, 53, was booked on charges of robbery by sudden snatching, felony battery and driving under the influence.
