Fifteen people were arrested on allegations of driving under the influence during June as part of ongoing efforts to improve traffic safety and keep impaired drivers off the roads.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday its June arrests, highlighting its continued focus on identifying and removing suspected impaired drivers from St. Lucie County roadways.
According to the agency, driving under the influence remains one of the leading causes of preventable traffic fatalities nationwide. Throughout June, deputies actively patrolled county roads and enforced DUI laws in an effort to reduce crashes and improve public safety.
“Throughout the month of June, deputies with the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office remained committed to keeping our roadways safe by actively identifying and removing impaired drivers from our streets,” the agency said in a social media post.
Officials stressed that preventing impaired driving begins with personal responsibility. The sheriff’s office is encouraging anyone who plans to consume alcohol or use substances that could impair their ability to drive to arrange for a sober driver, use a rideshare service or find another safe way home.
The agency said community cooperation is critical to reducing impaired driving and helping make roadways safer for both residents and visitors.
The sheriff’s office did not release additional details about the arrests.
