Hallandale Beach police did not provide more information about the child, or say if the babysitter would face any charges.
A two-year-old died on Sunday after they were left inside a hot car in Hallandale Beach, according to police.
Authorities said they responded at around 1:35 p.m. to a report about a child “who had been left inside a vehicle while in the care of a babysitter.”
The child was rushed to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Hallandale Beach police did not provide more information about the child, or say if the babysitter would face any charges. They said the investigation is active.
“This is a heartbreaking loss, and our thoughts are with the child’s family, and everyone affected by this tragedy,” police said in a statement. “We also want to use this moment to remind every parent, guardian, and caregiver in our community: always check the back seat before locking your vehicle and walking away. Temperatures inside a parked car can climb to dangerous levels within minutes, even on days that don’t feel especially hot. One last look before you shut the door can save a child’s life.”
This death comes just about a week after a little boy was found dead inside a car in Plantation.
According to Kids and Car Safety, four children have died in Florida this year from being left in a hot car. That brings the total death count to 10 in the U.S.
