A man connected to an armed robbery and a home burglary was arrested after he crashed a car near a playground in Gainesville while fleeing from law enforcement, according to authorities.
The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office said its deputies responded to reports of an armed robbery at the Circle K on Hawthorne Road, where two suspects held two victims at gunpoint. The suspects fled the area before law enforcement arrived.
Deputies responded to a residential burglary on May 18 in the 2000 block of Northwest 86th Terrance, ACSO said.
Numerous “high-value” items were stolen, including a firearm and a credit card. ACSO said the credit card was used to make unauthorized purchases.
Detectives identified a 2010 white Lincoln sedan connected to the residential burglary, which led them to identify F 20, as a suspect, according to the sheriff’s office.
“F is a convicted felon with multiple prior convictions related to dangerous weapons offenses,” ACSO said.
ACSO posted a video on Monday, showing deputies making contact with F in the 6100 block of Southwest 6th Place.
F fled from deputies in a car, striking an uninvolved vehicle during the pursuit before crashing into a tree near a children’s playground, according to video.
F attempted to jump out of the driver’s side window to flee on foot, but he was arrested, ACSO said.
Deputies recovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun near the crash scene, which investigators determined belonged to F. A search of the car uncovered business checks and a checkbook belonging to the victims of the residential burglary.
F was charged with armed burglary, grant theft, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft of a credit card, illegal use of a credit card, possession of another person’s ID without consent, fleeing and eluding and resisting without violence. He was transported to the Alachua County Jail.
Investigators then executed a search warrant for F’s vehicle and residence, finding another firearm and additional information that linked him to the armed robbery at the Circle K, ACSO said.
F was additionally charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, displaying a firearm while committing a felony and three counts of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.
