Two teens arrested in Palm Beach County case where victim was shot, run over after theft

Two more arrests were made after a Palm Beach County man told investigators he was shot in the leg and run over by a fleeing SUV after trying to stop friends from stealing his firearms.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said R, 16 at the time of the alleged offense, served as the getaway driver while M, 15 at the time of the alleged offense, allegedly stole two rifles from the victim’s home. Both teens face charges of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, armed burglary of an occupied dwelling and grand theft.

The charges are connected to the same April incident that previously resulted in the arrest of 21-year-old C who authorities allege shot the victim during the struggle before the group fled the scene.

According to probable cause affidavits, the victim invited M and another acquaintance to his home after speaking with them on a FaceTime call early April 24. Investigators said the pair spent about an hour inside the residence, where they took photographs with rifles stored in the victim’s bedroom.

The victim told detectives he went to the kitchen to prepare food before hearing what sounded like people running from his home. When he went outside, he allegedly found M carrying two of his rifles and another teen carrying a handgun as they fled toward a dark-colored SUV. Investigators said R was driving the vehicle.

According to the affidavits, the victim chased after the group and struggled with M over one of the rifles as M attempted to enter the SUV. The victim alleged M struck him in the face with the barrel of a rifle during the confrontation.

The victim told investigators that multiple people inside the SUV yelled:

Shoot him, shoot him, shoot him.”

He identified Waldon as the person who then pointed a firearm at him and fired, striking him in the leg.

After he was shot, the victim said he fell from the vehicle and was run over as the SUV sped away.

Deputies responded around 3:34 a.m. to a home on Crescendo Circle and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his thigh, a head laceration and extensive road rash. He was transported to Delray Medical Center in serious condition. Investigators recovered a spent 9mm shell casing, a sandal and vehicle debris from the area.

Surveillance footage reviewed by detectives allegedly showed the SUV arriving near the home before later returning as several people ran from the residence and entered the vehicle. Investigators said a gunshot could be heard on the video as the SUV fled the neighborhood.

The victim estimated the value of the stolen rifles at approximately $3,500. Detectives wrote that physical evidence and surveillance footage were consistent with the victim’s account and established probable cause to charge both Rivero and M. Investigators charged each teen as a principal in the attempted murder case.
