Tampa man runs from traffic stop, ends up tased

A man was arrested Tuesday night in Hillsborough County after deputies said he ran from a traffic stop.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred just before 9 p.m. near Benjamin Road and Johns Road.

A deputy conducted the stop after identifying a vehicle displaying a license plate that was reported stolen.

When the deputy attempted to detain the driver, identified as D, 40, he ran from the scene. The deputy quickly deployed a taser, causing D to fall to the ground.

He was arrested on charges of operating an unregistered vehicle, driving while license revoked (habitual offender), resisting an officer without violence, and petit theft ($100 or less).

The sheriff’s office said D had 12 prior convictions for driving while his license was suspended.
