Pensacola woman gets 18 years for DUI crash that killed Uber driver, injured Navy sailors

A 21-year-old Pensacola woman was sentenced Thursday to 18 years in state prison for a June 2024 DUI crash that killed a 60-year-old Uber driver and seriously injured two Navy sailors.

A judge sentenced K to 15 years for DUI manslaughter and three years for DUI with serious injury. Her prison sentenced will be followed by two years probation.

The crash happened on June 29, 2024, at 4 a.m. at the intersection of Navy Boulevard and Gulf Beach Highway.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, K — age 19 at the time — ran a red light in her Hyundai Elantra, crashing into the side of a Subaru Legacy.

The driver of the Subaru — a 60-year-old Pensacola man who was driving for Uber — was pronounced dead on scene.

His two Navy sailor passengers — a 28-year-old New York man and a 22-year-old Iowa man — both suffered serious injuries and were transported to the hospital.

K suffered serious injuries in the crash and was hospitalized.

According to the arrest warrant, troopers arrived on scene and observed a Twisted Tea can in the passenger seat of K’s vehicle.

The warrant states K registered a Blood Alcohol Content level of .186.

K had been out of jail on $100,000 bond since August 2024. She’s now being held without bond as she awaits transport to state prison.
