Two school principals in Lake County were arrested on DUI charges in Clermont after separate incidents involving the same car early on July 5.
The passenger, Christina Alcalde, and the driver, J, identified themselves as principals shortly after being pulled over around 2 a.m.
Alcalde listed her employment address as 14012 Old Highway 50 in Clermont, which matches the Minneola address of Pinecrest Lakes Academy. The school’s staff page showed her as the principal as of Monday night. J, who did not list her employment address, is listed online as the principal of another school in Lake County.
During the traffic stop, an officer asked J, “Ms. J, you consumed any alcohol today cause I can smell it.”
“Yes, I have,” J replied.
The officer noted issues with the way J was driving. When she got out of the car, she told the officer about her passenger,
“She’s worried about me,” J said.
When asked why, she said in part because they are both high on the totem pole of education.
J declined to perform a field sobriety test and was taken to the Lake County Jail.
According to the arrest report, Alcalde was deemed unfit to drive. Police made sure she took a rideshare and, with her permission, parked the car in the area where J was pulled over.
However, about two and a half hours later, an officer pulled Alcalde over in the same car near State Road 50.
“Why are you driving?” the officer asked.
Alcalde said she was trying to bail out her friend.
“Like I’m not meaning to do anything wrong. I’m way better,” Alcalde said.
After performing field sobriety tests, Alcalde was arrested.
Both Alcalde and J pleaded not guilty to DUI and refusal to submit to DUI testing.
