1 injured, 2 flee after early-morning crash in Fort Myers; stolen gun recovered

One person was injured, and two people fled the scene of a crash near Veronica S Shoemaker Boulevard in Fort Myers Tuesday morning.

According to the Fort Myers Police Department, officers responded to the scene of a single-vehicle crash at around 3:40 a.m. near the intersection of Veronica S. Shoemaker Boulevard and Teeside Lane.

A passenger in the rear seat of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital as a trauma alert, FMPD said. The driver and front-seat passenger ran from the scene prior to the officers’ arrival.

While investigating the crash, officers recovered a stolen firearm from the vehicle, FMPD said. The investigation remains ongoing.
