Leesburg man allegedly turns violent over work-related matter

A Leesburg man was arrested for battery after allegedly pushing someone over a work-related matter.

A deputy responded to a battery involving 33-year-old L near his home on Ironwood Avenue around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The male victim advised that he was near a dumpster talking to someone when his friend approached him. L then walked up and asked if the victim had a problem with him, because they had not spoken in weeks. The victim advised that he had no problem with L, the report said.

L questioned if the victim had a problem because of an issue between L and L’s cousin. The victim stated he did not care about the dispute. L next asked about work-related matters, to which the victim stated he did not have to explain anything to him, the report said.

L threatened to punch the victim in the face, but instead of doing so, he shoved the victim to the ground. The victim got up and tried to confront L, but one of the other men present stepped between them. L then walked back home, and the victim called law enforcement, the report said.

The deputy observed scratches on the victim left lower back, center back, left lower shin and right knuckle. A friend of the victim wrote his statement, as he was too agitated to write, the report said.

When speaking with L, he stated they were talking at the dumpster about a work-related issue when an argument started. The victim got loud and got in his face. He did not push L but was up on him, so L pushed him back. He only pushed the victim away and did not hit, slap, punch or jump on him, the report said.

L was arrested for simple battery and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $1,000 bond.
