Woman accused of causing hit-and-run crash, killing an 82-year-old man

 A woman is accused of leaving the scene of a hit-and-run crash that resulted in the death of an 82-year-old man, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday, deputies were called in response to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash at the intersection of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, and North 43rd Street. Once they arrived, the deputies discovered L, 82, unresponsive. He was pronounced dead on the scene, HCSO says.

The driver was later identified as D, 34. According to the HCSO, she turned herself in to the Orient Road Jail on Thursday and was charged with leaving scene of crash with death (vulnerable road user).

“Leaving the scene after taking someone’s life isn’t an accident, it’s a choice, and it’s a crime, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “Our detectives worked tirelessly to track down the person responsible, and this arrest makes it clear: if you break the law and endanger this community, we will find you and hold you accountable. We hope this arrest brings Mr. L’s family some measure of justice as they grieve this devastating loss.”
