A man was arrested after deputies said he crashed his vehicle into a woman, left her trapped under his pickup truck, and ran from the scene in southwest Miami-Dade Sunday morning.
According to an arrest report, B was driving east on Lincoln Drive. Just east of Southwest 154th Avenue, the victim stopped her vehicle in the roadway and got out to open the gate to her driveway.
As she walked past the driver’s side of her vehicle, investigators said B, 31, hit the rear of her car. The impact caused her vehicle to spin about 180 degrees clockwise, striking her and knocking her to the ground. Deputies said the truck then continued forward and struck her again, trapping her underneath.
Authorities said B got out and ran east on Lincoln Drive without calling for help or helping the victim.
The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Jackson South Medical Center, where she remains on life support.
A witness told investigators he followed B and saw him go into a shed at 15278 Lincoln Drive.
The witness then flagged down Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies, who found B and took him into custody.
According to the arrest form, B admitted he had drunk about five beers before the crash. He also admitted he was the driver and only person in the truck at the time.
Authorities said he also told investigators he is from Guatemala and is in the U.S. without legal status. A records check showed he has never been issued a Florida driver’s license.
Deputies arrested him and took him to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after he was cleared at Jackson South Medical Center.
B faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury and driving without a license causing death or serious bodily injury while unlawfully present in the United States.
Jail records also show he is being held on an immigration hold.
