2 hospitalized in multi-vehicle crash on I-4 in Lakeland

A crash in Lakeland closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 4, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

An FDOT release said two people were hospitalized in the multi-vehicle crash on I-4 just west of Exit 38 at State Road 33.

The two individuals, a 20-year-old Winter Haven man and a 19-year-old Orlando man, were said to be in critical condition.

The Florida Highway Patrol said both men were in a Lexus sedan that entered the outside shoulder of the interstate and collided with a disabled tractor trailer.

The impact caused the sedan to rotate back into the travel lanes, and it was struck by another tractor trailer traveling westbound on the interstate.

No other injuries were reported. The crash closed the westbound lanes of I-4 until 7:30 pm. with traffic being diverted at Exit 38.
