Man accused of punching firefighters after pickup crash, then stealing another truck

Man accused of punching firefighters after pickup crash, then stealing another truck

A man accused of crashing multiple pickup trucks — one of which was stolen — is also being accused of assaulting firefighters, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

PBSO says that on August 1, deputies responded to a crashed black pickup truck at 605 South Dixie Highway. The driver was later identified as J, 35, and he was found to be driving with a revoked license.

Originally investigated for a possible DUI, PBSO says that J became uncooperative, and verbally aggressive towards Palm Beach County Fire rescue personnel, repeatedly stating that he did not want to be taken to JFK Medical Center to treat his potential injuries. J also attempted to strike firefighters with his fists while yelling obscenities during the dispute, with one claiming he was punched multiple times by J.

Once inside the emergency room, J continued his verbal assault towards medical personnel as well as PBSO deputies. The affidavit states that J at one point lifted his left hand with a closed fist in an attempt to strike an officer, before being subdued and placed under arrest.

It doesn’t stop there. The following day, PBSO says they were called to the intersection of 6th Avenue S, and S Dixie Highway in response to a motor vehicle crash. There, deputies found another black pickup truck crashed into a streetlamp.

According to PBSO, they identified J as the driver once again. This time, it was discovered that J stole the vehicle from a Boynton Beach residence before wrecking it.

Over the two cases, J was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, battery on a firefighter, corruptly threatening a public servant, intent to threaten violence, driving while license suspended or revoked causing serious bodily injury/fleeing, and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license.
