Bicyclist fatally struck by vehicle switching lanes in Lake County

A bicyclist was fatally struck  Wednesday morning by a Jeep switching lanes in Clermont.

A 42-year-old man from Kissimmee was driving a 2020 Jeep Wrangler westbound on U.S. Hwy. 192 in Clermont around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

As the vehicle approached Town Center Boulevard, a male bicyclist was traveling eastbound on the highway in the westbound bicycle lane. The front of the vehicle then struck the front of the bicycle while trying to get into the right turn lane, the report said.

The bicyclist, whose identity is pending, was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner’s office will contact the FHP once they have identified the victim, and the crash remains under investigation.
