A pedestrian was struck and killed while trying to cross Interstate 95 in Hollywood on Friday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Authorities said the crash was reported at 4:20 a.m., after a 20-year-old Davie man jumped “from the center concrete barrier separating the southbound and northbound lanes” and started crossing I-95 northbound.

The pedestrian was hit by a driver of a Honda Civic in the right lane of the Express Lanes, north of West Pembroke Road, FHP said. It was raining at the time of the crash and the roadway was wet, officials said.

After the crash, FHP said the driver moved into the general-purpose lanes and stopped in the left lane.

The victim was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:27 a.m. His name has not been released.

It was not immediately clear why the man was attempting to cross the highway. Authorities also did not say if the driver would face any charges.
