Driver suffers minor injuries after SUV collides with train in Escambia County

A 74-year-old Pensacola man was cited after his SUV collided with a train at a railroad crossing in Escambia County on Sunday morning.

Troopers say the crash happened at 9:45 a.m. at Airport Boulevard and Memory Lane.

A 2018 Honda CR-V was traveling westbound on Airport Boulevard and approaching the railroad crossing at Memory Lane when the crossing arms were down and the lights were flashing, according to FHP.

Troopers say a southbound train was approaching and using its horn.

The driver failed to stop, struck and traveled beneath the crossing arm, and drove onto the tracks, where the right side of the Honda struck the train, according to FHP.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was cited for careless driving.
