A passenger who was in a vehicle that crashed into First Bank, located near Berner Road and U.S. Highway 27 in Clewiston, has died.

The incident occurred on July 15, when the driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake pedal while leaving a nearby oil change facility, the Clewiston Police Department said. The vehicle hit the building, and the female passenger suffered blunt force trauma to her abdomen at the time of the impact and critical injuries after striking the windshield.

No pedestrians or additional vehicles were involved in the collision.

According to CPD, the Palm Beach County medical examiner’s report determined that her death was a result of the collision. CPD said its investigation is closed and no criminal charges will be filed.
