Destin apartment fire possibly sparked by charging e-bike

Destin Fire Rescue responded to an apartment fire possibly involving a charging e-bike.

Crews received a call reporting smoke, and fire coming from an apartment along Vinings Way on Saturday night. Firefighters said they were able to contain the fire to the room where it started and kept it from spreading any further.

While the cause of the fire still remains under investigation, Destin Fire Rescue said there’s reason to believe an e-bike battery charging ignited the fire.

No one was injured. North Bay Fire Control District, Okaloosa Island Professional Firefighters and South Walton Fire District were all on scene helping to put out the fire.
