Pedestrian critically injured in Escambia County hit-and-run

A pedestrian was critically injured Saturday night after being struck in a marked crosswalk in Escambia County, and the driver left the scene, according to FHP.

Troopers say the crash happened at 8:10 p.m. at State Road 295 and County Road 453.

The pedestrian was walking across County Road 453 in a marked crosswalk when a red sport utility vehicle traveling southbound on County Road 453 hit him, according to FHP.

Troopers say the SUV fled the scene without stopping after the collision.

The driver of the SUV is a 27-year-old woman from Pensacola and was not reported injured, according to FHP.

Troopers say the pedestrian, a man, has not been identified, and no next of kin notification has been made.

Criminal charges are pending.
