Hollywood man, 74, accused of intentionally setting person on fire, cops say

A 74-year-old Hollywood man was arrested after he intentionally set another person on fire, police said.

M was arrested Friday night on charges of attempted murder and attempted solicitation and conspiracy, an arrest report said.

The report said investigators responded and found the victim, who suffered second-degree burns to the back of his head and around his neck, his upper back and right arm and hand.

While speaking with an officer, M “spontaneously stated that he had lit the victim on fire after the victim had applied rubbing alcohol to himself,” the report said.

M said he tried to assist the victim by wiping the fire and extinguishing the flames but said the victim wouldn’t let him, the report said.

The victim taken to Memorial Regional Hospital and later transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospitals’ Ryder Trauma Center for treatment.

At the hospital, the victim told a detective M threw an unknown accelerant on him before he was set on fire.
