A man was fatally shot Tuesday night during an argument in the parking lot of a hotel near Beach Boulevard, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.
Police were called around 8:42 p.m. to Saland Way, which is about a mile west of St. Johns Bluff Road off Beach Boulevard, after reports that someone had been shot.
When officers got to the scene, they found a man shot several times. He died at the scene.
According to JSO, witnesses said they heard an argument between the man and another person moments before shots rang out.
Police said the suspected shooter drove away in a dark colored vehicle. It’s unclear if the two knew each other or why they were arguing.
Several witnesses are being questioned. JSO is searching for the shooter but believes the incident was isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
But a woman who has called the hotel home for nearly a year says the incident was frightening, and she believes she heard the gunshots.
“It sounded like it was out in the distance, but apparently, it was out in the parking lot,” said L. “I’m scared, to be honest. Every day I come in that place it’s just like everybody’s hanging out late at night. It’s scary because you don’t know what’s really going on.”
