Suspect arrested in deadly e-bike hit-and-run after weeks-long FHP investigation

The driver behind a deadly e-bike hit-and-run crash has been identified and arrested after a weeks-long investigation, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP says that S, 25, was arrested and booked Thursday after he was identified as the driver behind a deadly collision with a 48-year-old man riding an e-bike in early-August.

Following the crash, S allegedly fled the scene without rendering aid or contacting law enforcement, and the bicyclist was taken to Lawnwood Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to FHP.

S’s pickup truck, a light-colored Ford F-150, was initially identified shortly after the incident thanks to the use of Flock cameras — which are now set to be taken off of state roads in Florida.

Almost a month later, S has now been taken into custody after deputies served a warrant at his residence. He was arrested and brought to the Indian River County Jail without incident, according to the arrest report.
