Polk County deputy hospitalized after head-on crash

A Polk County sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized after a head-on crash involving two vehicles early Friday near Haines City and Poinciana.

The crash occurred around 5:53 a.m. in the area of Cypress Parkway/Johnson Avenue and Miss Mary Ann Road.

The deputy is stable and alert at the hospital with injuries to his hip and leg and a laceration to his arm, authorities said.

The other driver was also transported to a hospital. No update on that driver’s condition was available.

Traffic in the area is expected to be heavily impacted while the investigation continues.
