A customer has filed a lawsuit against an Ocala convenience store, alleging she suffered severe injuries after slipping on an unmarked puddle of water near the checkout counter.
Venant Derosier filed the lawsuit in Marion County circuit court against King Convenience Store, Inc., doing business as King Food Mart Ocala, located at 149 SW Martin Luther King Avenue.
The lawsuit states that Derosier was shopping at the store on November 16, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m.
As she finished shopping and approached the checkout aisle, Derosier claims she slipped and fell forcefully on an “inconspicuous, unattended, unmarked” puddle of water on the floor.
The complaint alleges that the store failed to maintain safe walkway surfaces, failed to conduct routine floor inspections, and failed to place caution signs or absorbent mats in the checkout area.
The filing further contends the establishment violated multiple Florida building and fire safety codes requiring slip-resistant walking surfaces in public areas.
Derosier claims she suffered bodily injuries, permanent scarring, mental anguish, loss of earning capacity, and incurred significant medical expenses as a result of the fall.
Derosier is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and demanding a jury trial. A summons was issued to the convenience store on August 14, according to court records.
