One person is dead and multiple injured, including two deputies, after a shooting at a Wesley Chapel apartment, the Pasco Sheriff’s Office announced.
According to the Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco, Deputies responded to a call at 12:58 a.m. Thursday regarding a person who had been shot and another barricaded in an apartment with the shooting suspect, J, 29.
Deputies made contact with the victim, who had been shot, and learned that three bail bondsmen were attempting to take J into custody and revoke his bond for failure to appear from Hillsborough County for lewd and lascivious charges.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies entered the apartment to rescue the second victim, using a tactical shield.
According to Sheriff Nocco, the deputies did not return fire and maintained tactical position.
Still speaking with the second victim to ensure they were not injured. Deputies attempted to contact J, but got no response.
Deputies deployed pepper balls with no response and then used a drone to fly into the room he was in.
PSO said deputies found J dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The second victim was taken from the apartment with no injuries, and the initial victim was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Deputies were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
