An 83-year-old Lake Butler man died Friday night after his car reversed across a road and hit two trees, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

An 83-year-old Lake Butler man died Friday night after his car reversed across a road and hit two trees, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the man’s car was in a parking spot at Lake Avenue and Southeast 11th Street, near Union County High School, around 9:30 p.m. Friday, when he rapidly reversed.

FHP said it’s unclear why the man reversed so fast, but that his car crossed over Lake Avenue before hitting a palm tree and then another tree.

The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene, the report said.

No other injuries were reported.
