A man was rescued from a burning home in Fort Lauderdale Monday afternoon and rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue officials, a 911 call came in just after 12:30 p.m. reporting a house fire in the 1800 block of Northwest 16th Court.
Firefighters arrived within six minutes and encountered “heavy fire conditions,” FLFR officials said in a news release.
Officials said crews were told someone might be trapped inside the home and immediately entered the house to search for that person.
Firefighters then located a man inside a bathroom and rescued him from the home, officials said.
The man was transported to Broward Health Medical Center with what officials said were “life-threatening injuries.”
FLFR officials confirmed that one firefighter suffered minor burns and is receiving treatment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. According to Fort Lauderdale police, its detectives are “conducting an arson investigation to determine if the circumstances surrounding this fire are suspicious in nature.”
Officials with the American Red Cross said they are assisting residents affected by the fire.
