Boy, 8, rushed to hospital after being struck by car in Fort Lauderdale

 An 8-year-old boy was struck by a car Saturday in Fort Lauderdale and transported to a nearby hospital as a trauma alert, according to Fort Lauderdale police.

Police said the crash was reported in the 500 block of Southwest 27th Avenue. They said the boy was transported by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue medics to Broward Health Medical Center for further treatment.

Detectives said he lives on the block and was trying to cross the street to get to a nearby convenience store.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. Authorities ultimately ruled the crash an accident and decided not to file any charges.

They said the northbound and southbound lanes in the 500 block of Southwest 27th Avenue were closed due to the crash.

Authorities said the boy was in stable condition as of Saturday afternoon.

The boy’s identify has yet to be released.
