Sarasota man seriously hurt in crash with parked USPS vehicle

A Sarasota man was seriously hurt Tuesday morning after his car crashed into an unoccupied USPS mail vehicle on Swift Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the 68-year-old man was driving a Nissan Sentra south in the right lane of Swift Road, north of Wilkinson Road, about 9:22 a.m.

The USPS vehicle was stopped partly in the right lane and partly on the sidewalk near the 4300 block of Swift Road, FHP said.

The Sentra driver suffered a possible medical episode before the front of his vehicle hit the rear of the USPS vehicle, according to the agency.

The driver was taken to an area hospital in serious condition. FHP said he was transported as a trauma alert.

No one was inside the USPS vehicle at the time of the crash.
